Yes, I know it's not 25 years. Yes, I know it's illegal. But say, I buy one of these from Canada, and drive it down to NJ. What are my chances of getting kicked out of the car while I'm at the border? I mean, I wont carry anything illegal into the car, and it's not like they're gonna ask me for my license and registration right? I mean, I'm just going to show them my passport and continue on my way as if nothing happened. I promise that I will drive within the speedlimit to avoid attracting attention.

I'm pretty sure most of the CBP people know what cars can & can't come over, especially when you flash your US Passport at the border.

Like that? Probably close to 100%. A roll bar (cage? can't tell) is a big red flag. Plus you would have to have all of your paperwork in order which I doubt you could get.

Maybe... and I mean MAYBE you can get the NJ DMV to give you a collector's registration for it.

License plates. It's going to have canadian license plates and registration in Canada but you live in the US. unless it's on a trailer and you say it's a "track only" car (and if it has a rollcage and no interior most border patrols will believe you) they'll ask questions about it and eventually they'll find out the car can't be registered here.

.....Unless they give absolutely zero fucks that day. Then it might work. But you only get one shot.

The Feds are going to find out you're driving that car, take it, and crush it.

LOL nah, not like this. Just regular stock. It probably wont even be a GT-R, but a regular skyline. I also don't plan to register it. I'll keep it garage kept, and work on it, maybe trailer it to a track, but I won't drive it on the street.

you ever driven over the border? Try doing it with Canadian plates and a US passport.

What if I support a US passport, but a registration for a Canadian address, from my relatives who I'm "borrowing" the car from?. I actually have a relative in Ontario, who lives there legally. I would technically, be "borrowing" the car.

Then you can probably get it trucked over the border. You mentioned driving it to NJ and that probably has a very slim chance of happening(S).

The state government does not give a flying fuck about what car you register or where it came from. It's the federal government you need to worry about. All the other Skylines were registered in their respective states before the Feds swooped in and had them all crushed.

I have driven over the border. I was planning on driving in with NJ plates, and leaving with NJ plates. Yes, I'll switch plates. Yes, I know the trouble I could get in.

By Trucked, do you mean, U-haul with a trailer, or would I have to consult with a transport company?

Well, i had to say that it's a bit scary.

I wouldn't do that if that was me. Even if you said that you had a V12 Century or RS6 V10, i won't break the law, just won't..

Switching plates is a bad idea. They take a picture of your car, front and rear (at least if it's like Detroit's border crossing). Between all these different facets of illegal things, you should probably reconsider this plan and get it transported if you want it.

The Feds can't crush my hypothetical Skyline if they don't know it's here. Now, I need to figure out how to get a Skyline past the border without anyone knowing.

I think either may work. A transport company might help with paperwork though, which could be a nightmare. I've never done that, just sent stuff around in the USA.

Would this mean that I have to call a dedicated Transport company or, would uhauling a trailer be considered transporting it?

think about it, if it were that easy, this site would be called Oppositelock-in-my-Skyline-that-I-drove-down-from-Canada. Everyone would have one.

Since I'm not CBP, I can't give you a firm answer. However, I'm sure they'd be suspicious about it, the Skyline is a well known car.

Unless you're in California, then you need to smog a brand new diesel truck because you bought out of state.

Like Crocket said, Canucks in Canuck cars. I see cars from BC here all the time, and Ontario cars when I lived in Detroit. Temporary stays are one thing, but trying to skirt around the law and import a car is another.

I've only imported one car from Canada, and it was an original CA car that I bought in Windsor and brought back to Detroit. It was also a 1975 and the import was done in 2007, so it was beyond the 25 year law.

I honestly don't know. Transport companies can be reasonably priced though, so I'd at least look into that if I were you. Consult the Googles for info about the U-Haul stuff.
